As President, I am responsible for the overall running and direction of the club.

In a previous life, I used to compete for Oxford in rowing (and a bit of skiing), but a couple of nasty injuries forced me to retire from both.

After a couple of years working in London, as a trader, I returned to university for a structural engineering PhD. I took up discus as a replacement for rowing, which has turned out to be a far more satisfying and enjoyable sport!

I joined CUAC just in time for the 2017 Varsity Match and within a year I improved my throw by 10m to reach the blues standard for the 2018 Varsity. My personal goal is to win the Varsity Match next year, which is exactly the same objective I have for the club as President.

This means I like to pretend I know everything there is to know about the club.

In reality, however, I am a hurdler and middle distance runner who arranges meetings of the club's Committee and generally ensures that all the little things that keep the club going are seen to.

I fell in love with the club as a whole and wanted to do my bit to give back to it. My job as Alverstones’ captain involves cultivating and growing the excellent team atmosphere in CUAC, putting us in the ideal position to put O*ford in their place from day one.

Chantelle Caines

Alligators' Captain (joint)

Im fairly bubbly and extremely chatty so will hopefully bring a lot of fun to CUAC and the alligators during the social side of things, alongside my wonderful co-captain Flo. As alligators co-captains we want to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable and continue to build the strong bonds formed between the alligators (it's like an amazing, big family), push the incredible women in the alligators/CUAC in general, and those sure to join in the next year, to reach their full potential, have fun and most importantly... To kick o*fords ass!

Although I came to Cambridge having never trained for athletics before, I quickly became addicted when I joined the 400m squad. I started hurdling during Warm Weather Training and have since joined the short sprints squad as well. As Sponsorship Secretary I intend to secure serious financial support for the club so we can continue to invest in coaching and equipment for years to come. I am also responsible for promoting the club through our website, social media and at events. As such, I hope all members feel free to send me their content and ideas for any platform.

James Coxon

I enjoyed my time in CUAC so much that I stayed to undertake a PhD and am now entering my 6th year with the club. Last year was particularly rewarding, captaining the Men’s team and achieving my first Full Blue.

As this year’s Alumni Secretary I coordinate the involvement of former CUAC members with current students. This involves updating the alumni network with news from the club and invitations to events throughout the year, while helping students to benefit from a vast collective wisdom regarding sport, degrees and future careers. Many alumni also generously donate to the club, helping to subsidise the expenses of students to make athletics one of the most accessible university sports.

Since then I've fallen in love with both the sport and the club, and also grown as an individual throughout. This year, I can't wait to see the 400 squad go from strength to strength and eventually dish out a thrashing to Oxf*rd at the Varsity Match.

When I started athletics I only did pole vault, but have since also attempted all throws and jumps, although not at any great standard, mainly to collect points in league matches for my club! Training will involve lots of vaulting as well as sprints and circuits. Everyone is welcome, from no experience to pro!

Joining university and being part of this amazingly supportive club has very quickly allowed me to improve to the level of blues team at Varsity in two different events, neither of which is shot put!

The heavy throws squad is quite small and you get to know each other quickly, so feel free to come along to any of our training sessions or get in contact with me if you're interested in any of the throws (Shot, Hammer, Disc).

Whether you've never tried any sport before or you're European champion thrower, we're looking forward to meeting you!
