Taking Europe By Storm: Rasmus Kisel

Representing his native Estonia, the self-proclaimed ‘Beast from the East’ Kisel smashed his PB in the fastest heat of the day. Rasmus finished 7th in Heat 2, won by Sweden’s Andreas Kramer, in a time of 1:49.40 beating his previous Personal Best of 1:51.21 .

For perspective, Heat 3 was won in 1:49.50. The top two from each Heat qualified for the Final.

Having missed this year’s Varsity Match through injury, this stellar performance is one Rasmus is certainly proud of. ‘Hasn’t been the easiest two years in terms of injuries, but finally managed to break that 1.50 barrier,’ he wrote on Instagram.

Kisel has trained for the past two years under Maurice Benn at CUAC as part of the Middle Distance Squad where he is known as a colourful character. Seemingly undeterred by his often outrageous headgear in winter, Rasmus has powered through punishing workout after punishing workout and is now reaping the rewards.

Representing his country is not something foreign to Rasmus who has also represented Estonia in international physics competitions.

Well done to Rasmus from all of the CUAC family.
