I joined CUAC as soon as I started, and haven't looked back. Before joining CUAC, my only athletics experience was competing casually in sprints and horizontal jumps for my school. I never touched hurdles until Lent term of second year, and now 400m Hurdles is my preferred event.

I hope to develop the club into the best club it can be for the athletes by listening and responding to their needs. We have such a strong team spirit and I have found CUAC to be so supportive of all achievements - there really is a place for everyone. Outside of athletics, at Cambridge I have been heavily involved in organising the St John's College May Ball (2016 and 2017), and have played violin in a few orchestras. When not running or working (or admin-ing) I love cooking, eating, reading recipe books, visiting new cafes and restaurants, and capturing those moments on camera!

Amrita Panesar

Honorary Secretary

Despite having trained before starting university, it wasn't until I arrived here and trained with CUAC that I started following a proper training plan and learnt more about how to train smart, not just hard. I really enjoy the team atmosphere in the sprints group and the club overall - everyone's super supportive and that really helps when you're at the track after a long hard day of work! As honorary secretary, I hope to keep the club on track with all its admin and be a friendly face for athletes to come to with any questions/suggestions without hesitation.

Caroline Johnson

Junior Treasurer

I run the 200 and 400 and achieved the blues time in the 400 m in my first varsity match. I had the honour of representing Achilles on the Transatlantic Tour in 2017. It’s a great club to train with, the social aspect of the club is also very important and is a great counterbalance to academic life. In my final year at Cambridge I would like to give something back to the club which I aim to achieve through being the Junior Treasurer on the 2017-18 committee.

James Coxon

Mens' Captain

Rowing involved too many early mornings and I much preferred the variety of training, events and people in athletics!

As Men's Captain I hope to set the example that dedicated training gets results. I want to encourage others to take up the sport for the first time and enjoy working hard! I hope to be friendly and approachable, making sure everyone enjoys the upcoming year and being part of a Varsity-winning team!

Hephzibah Adeosun

Womens' Captain

Tom Goulding

Alverstones' Captain

My proudest athletic moment has to be finishing inside the top 150 at the Great North Run despite a toilet stop. I hope to use the Alverstones captaincy to forge the team mentality we need to put O*ford in their rightful place in between making sure we're having way more fun than them too.

Tiwa Adebayo

Alligators' Captain (joint)

Tiwa Adebayo

2nd Year

Theology and Religious Studies

College: Sidney Sussex

Event(s): 100m

Having started athletics at the tender age of 7, I really thought university would be the time to stop however, as soon I was introduced to the wonderful world of CUAC I was completely hooked. Whether I'm competing in the 100m or organising another lit event as your alligators captain, CUAC is always my priority. I'm looking forward to helping the alligators bond and become a force to be reckoned with this year, look out for our super cool alligators baseball caps in a club near you ;) #SwapGoals

Léa Wegner

Alligators' Captain (joint)

Still holding on to those roots, I have been turned into a dedicated athlete. I hope Tiwa and I can increase the depth of the Alligators by promoting alumnus return, multiplying casual events and providing the support that may strengthen the bonds of an already tight-knit and great group of girls! We also hope to get more Hare and Hounds girls involved and of course to ensure everyone trains hard and plays hard! And smash O*****, but that goes without saying…

Ellie Lane

Matches and Officials Secretary

Ellie Lane

3rd Year

History

College: Queens

Event(s): Javelin

I've been competing in athletics since the age of 9 which means I have attempted almost every event (bar steeplechase) before settling on javelin. My athletics claim to fame would be beating Morgan Lake (Olympic heptathlete) at a pentathlon when we were 13, even if our athletic careers have somewhat diverged since then! Reprising my role as officials and matches secretary this year, I'm hoping to deliver the slickest run competitions, the happiest officials, and the best match food for a light blue victory.

Lawrence Hopkins

Publicity Officer

Lawrence Hopkins

2nd Year

Geography

College: St Catharine’s

Event(s): 800m

Hello! I resurrected my athletics career here at Cambridge and now want everyone to know about it. As Publicity Sec I also make sure as many people as possible know about the club’s fixtures, successes, and burning desire to beat Oxford. I want to foster a club-wide identity through all social media outlets, including getting CUAC on Snapchat. Being from Manchester sporting excellence is in my blood and I want to bring this attitude to CUAC as I do for Catz football in my time off the track.

Stephanie Sinclair

Sponsorship and Alumni Secretary

Stephanie Sinclair

3rd Year

Law

College: Fitzwilliam

Event(s): Long Jump, Triple Jump

Hi! I'm from Gloucester (the same town as the ‘mighty’ Jacob Lange). I only joined CUAC in second year, and competed for the women's blues team in Triple Jump at last year's Varsity match. I had done a bit of athletics at school, but nothing super major! As Sponsorship and Alumni Secretary, I'm responsible for sourcing a club sponsor and maintaining a strong relationship with our fab CUAC Alumni. When I'm not jumping into sand, you'll probably find me at an infamous Alligators swap on a Wednesday with all the other CUAC girls!

Emmaline Okafor

Kit Secretary

When I was 15 I won gold at the NZ national schools championships in high jump, and was ready to make my mark on this side of the world as soon as I arrived in Cambridge, joining CUAC as soon as I possibly could. I also dabble in a bit of college football for Caius. CUAC is one big family and as social secretary this year I am in charge of bringing this family together for some of the most extravagant and exciting events of the Cambridge year. I aim to make the fantastic feasts throughout the year grand occasions, that allow the club to grow closer as a family. Of course we can't forget about warm weather training which I aim to make the highlight of each and every athlete’s year.

Amrita Panesar

Sprints Squad Leader

Sam Day

400m Squad Leader

When I started athletics I did XC and middle distance running but moved down to 400m and 400m hurdles about 6 years ago and joined the 400 squad when I came to Cambridge. My biggest achievement in athletics I feel was qualifying for the 2016 British Championships/Olympic trials. My goals for this year are to run the blues time in the 400m and to keep the 400 squad well informed and motivated throughout the year!

Sam Charlwood

Hurdles Squad Leader

Sam Charlwood

I have been a keen athlete for 7 years, I started out with shorter sprint events and then moving up to 400m and 400m Hurdles (and momentarily triple jump!). I am also one of the few athletes who has experienced the Oxbridge-exclusive 200m Hurdles race. When not training or working I enjoy hiking around various regions in the UK. Feel free to join or try hurdles regardless of your experience or preferred distance!

Callum Court

Pole Vault Squad Leader

I'm Callum the 2017-18 vault squad leader. I have been competing in athletics for over 10 years, and vaulting for the last 6. Currently I represent Cardiff AAC. My goal for this year is simple, make pole vault the most successful squad at this year's varsity matches. Feel free to come along and train with us. I promise you'll love it.

Elliot Baines

Horizontal Jumps Squad Leader

I eventually settled down to jumps after I realised I couldn't throw. The jumps training involves sprinting, fitness, weird plyometric exercises, and of course playing in sand pits, therefore catering to the enjoyment of a range of athletes.

Léa Wegner

High Jump Squad Leader

But the club was so welcoming I not only joined, but progressed quickly and loved every single moment of my time here! I want to be able to keep up that atmosphere in the High Jump squad this year, helping both beginners to get confident and advanced jumpers to continually improve (and hopefully bringing some level of entertainment that makes any hard training session better...).

I used to throw at a little bit at school but I spent most of my undergrad time rowing for the dark blues, so it’s a fun new challenge to try and utilise my strength and power again for discus.

With a lot of good throwers graduating last year, we are looking to replace them with a fresh new crop of future stars! We have a friendly little group at heavy throws practise and if like me, you are used to more of an endurance sport, the brief bursts of exertion interspersed with lots of nattering is absolute bliss!

Whether you are a pro or a novice, please don't hesitate to get in contact if you think you might be interested in getting involved.

Jacob Brockmann

Middle Distance Squad Leader

Jacob Brockmann

I am from Perth, Australia and I joined CUAC as a fresher last year. I have always liked running, but this was my first year doing athletics properly. My greatest athletic achievement so far has not been on the track, but on the underground in London where my friend and I jumped off the tube at one station, ran to the next, and jumped back on the same carriage! Last year I cut almost 10 seconds from the 1500m time I ran at Cuppers and I hope to do more PBs this season!
